Out of the blue, I got a text from my daughter “Do you want a casket?”. First off I have to let everyone know that for Halloween I turn my front yard into a graveyard.
This one was smaller than normal. More about the costume later.
So I told my daughter absolutely. When it got delivered, there was just one problem. No this isn’t the problem.
When I opened it, The bottom pad and fabric had been removed.
At least the bottom is still there. So I set out to fix this issue. I couldn’t find a good enough match, so I went with a brown. I took a 3/4″ piece of plywood and added a 4″ foam padding wrapped with the brown fabric. The casket looks much better now. The picture shows the new fabric installed. I also dressed up as a Ghostly Ghent and offered people the opportunity to get in and take a picture.
The next year I took the costume and put in the casket with an animated skull. The skeleton is holding a candy bowl. When kids came up, I opened the casket and the skull started moving the eyes, mouth and talked. It was a big hit.
The next year, I put several bowls and bones in the casket and treated the casket as a coffin buffet. This year I plan on putting an animated Grim Reaper that rises up. It should be a hit. As you can see, I am getting great mileage and having great fun with the only real casket in the subdivision.
